Not my favorite bag in terms of looks but still a cute one. There have been
others I have loathed getting but this one is not one of them. I will definitely be using it in
L.A.B. Live and Breathe Beauty “Just Blending In” brush
The brush is a nice size, blending brush. The bristles are soft and pick up product well. I was able to use this brush as both a transition shade brush and an accent shade brush. I can definitely see myself using it regularly. It is not as soft as say a Morphe brush or even an ELF brush but it is still a nice texture.
Nudestix Lip & Cheek Pencil in “Mystic”
The product comes in nice packaging and applies
smoothly. It almost has a cream finish look to it. That makes sense as it is also being marketed as a blush. I only had to apply once around the lips to get a great color payoff. Overall a great nude lip product.
Ren Skincare Evercalm Global Protection Day Cream
Wow! This product is amazing! I was
a little skeptical about it when I first opened it but after applying it, I know I will purchase it in the future! The lotion has a semi strong scent that fades after applying and the product goes on smoothly and easily. Usually when I apply my face cream, it takes two attempts before my skin feels moisturized and not “tight”. That was not the case at all with this product. I could feel it absorbing into the skin and when I woke up with morning, it was still doing the job and my skin felt incredible. I love this lotion!
Buxom Cosmetics Wildly Whipped Lightweight Liquid lipstick in “Centerfold”
This product is…interesting. It is being marketed as a liquid lipstick and it really isn’t. I would compare this product and consistency to the Maybelline Vivid Matte liquid lipstick. It goes on smoothly, like a gloss, but does appear matte. It does not dry the lips and the color payoff is great. I am just thrown off by the label of “liquid lipstick” as it isn’t. I love the brand and wear products of theirs but in this case, would prob not purchase this again as it is so similar to the Vivid Matte lipsticks. Maybelline is cheaper. 🙂
Moroccan Oil Moroccan Oil treatment
I’ve used this product in the past. It is nice but not for
me. I already have healthy hair and don’t need this product. I didn’t even use this. I traded it for a lipstick from someone else who also gets Ipsy. I also don’t really like the scent either.
Looks like Natalie had a great bag this month! How did you like yours?
Generation Beauty by Ipsy Day 2!
This was so much more organized then the first day. (Can I get a whoop whoop?) The second day came with more freebies, like Too Faced matching your skin tone and giving you a full foundation. You heard me right, a full size foundation! There was also Smash Box, who gave us not one but TWO full sized eye liners. But the best vendor by far was Tarte. We love their products and surprise, surprise, they did have items for sale. Well, they had select items for sale, (about 12) but they were offered at a 60% discount. YAY.
It felt like we were pros on day two and knew exactly what to do. The event ran much more smoothly, which told us that the Gen Beauty hosts and volunteers were paying attention to the issues from the day before. They were all very nice, and spent time asking us what we thought worked from the day before and where we had problems.
Even though this day was run much better, we felt like we had seen most of what we needed to see on day one. We did get to look around more since it seemed that there were fewer people, and shorter lines, and we even got the chance to buy stuff! (Shopping? Uh, YES)
So, in the afternoon, when we were finally handed the key to the world, our Day Two Glam Bag (choir singing in the background…) we decided to head home.
In the beginning, with all the confused craziness, it was frustrating, but once we got a handle on things, we actually had a fantastic time! Will I go again? Uh HECK YES, whether I am by myself or with my amazing friends.
Oh and I forgot the best part, the savings! Between the glam bags from both days and freebies we received the amount was (drumroll please)
Now, for the items I spent money on. The in-store cost of everything would have been $257.93, but I only paid $128.10, so in the end I saved $129.83, on what I purchased. However, if we want to look at the whole shebang with all the freebies and the discounts, what outrageous numbers would we have?
Wow where do I even begin with this crazy weekend of Gen Beauty?
Once both of us were done we thought “what now?”. It looked like a cluster**** in a huge white tent! There was no concept of lines that we could conceive, just huge globs of people at each vendor. In the end, we decided to simply walk around and try to figure out what the “must sees” were for us. Upon further investigation we realized that there were a lot of vendors who were doing touch-ups (however, no one mentioned to me that we probably should have started with clean, makeup free faces, so they were skipped). The next revelation was that we needed to pick a line and pick it fast, as it was becoming increasingly crowded.
Once we had our bearings, we headed for the NYX line which ended up being two lines. In one, we got to vote for a You-Tuber and get a free popsicle. (YUMMO) Then, after we voted, we took pictures to get a free item.
The popsicle wasn’t bad at all, and after waiting in both lines we received two free full size lip glosses, a NYX tote and 40% off all their products! Not bad right? NYX was definitely the longest wait with the most people for the first day.
After the fun of shopping we decided to check out each vendor to see what their freebies were. There were a couple good ones, like LA Girl and IT cosmetics, who also gave us wonderful tote bags with a coupon or a lipstick. Actually, the majority of vendors had something to give us, which was awesome. Not something little either! Of course there were a few who gave out travel sized items, but mostly we either received full size, or a couple travel sized items from each vendor.
The only issue for me was, that even though there were a lot of vendors, who were giving away these awesome items, it didn’t seem like there was much for sale. Yes, they were informing us of their new and upcoming items, but we weren’t able to actually BUY much. If I am going to an event, and I love the products that are featured, then I really want to be able to buy the products at the event, not write them down or take pictures to go by later. Isn’t that why we were there? To get a first glimpse of new items? What better way to do that than allow us to purchase said items? Seems to make more sense to me. But I digress…
Once we came back from lunch, with tans and full bellies, we formed our game plan. We had wanted to see a couple You-Tubers but it was super hectic because there was really no set panel location, they were just out in the open, in the middle of the tent, talking about their vlogs in big crowds, which was not for us. It would have been nice to have placed them in a separate room (or area, as it were) where they could be heard over the din and we could maybe sit down.

Wow! This month’s box is a work of art!
What a fun box top this month with the comic character like makeup girl. And a surprise treat? There was a little bag inside this month. Very cute, sturdy, and a welcome treat from a box that we already love the packaging on.
We love it!
The makeup bag was cute and came with a mystery discount code that I haven’t tried yet, but its always nice to get discounts
Julep Gel Eye Glider-Smokey Taupe
Paige- I don’t wear a lot of eyeliner, so samples are a good size for me, but, if I get the odd full size, in a good color, I’m happy. This one happens to be a nice color, and a good eyeliner in general, actually. It smudged easily, but didn’t move once I was finished. I’m very impressed.
Paige- Oh My Gosh, did this color ever intimidate me. I have seen this brand in stores and have stayed away because I thought “No Way will colors like those look good on me, they are way to saturated” Was I ever shocked, then, to try this out and find that its actually quite lovely!
One coat was sheer enough to be great for regular daytime use, and two coats were perfect for a brighter lip. It goes on glossy and is not tar like at all. It feels super, and looks awesome. Definitely will be using this this summer
Megan- Lip Tar Stained a gloss in Meta: no joke, the color scared me in the box. It looks almost like a neon raspberry. The fun of lip tar (besides it staying for a long time) is that you can layer it so that you don’t have to have full impact of the color immediately. The barely there brush gave my lips a nice color that works with anything and is almost matte immediately but doesn’t look like your lips are dry. A second, heavy layer gives you a sheen of slick color that is fun without being overwhelming. Good for heading out after work or to a summer picnic in a flirty dress. A third coat was a bit scary. I’d save it for Halloween or someone with a bolder, more golfer skin tone than me.
Este Lauder Enlighten Dark Spot Correcting Night Serum
Paige- I am more concerned with faint wrinkles at this point than dark spot correction, so this did not really interest me, but I’ll take a sample of this brand any time. I have always liked Este Lauder, and this really is no exception, but I might pass this onto my Mom or Mother in Law and see if they can use it.
Paige- This packaging was so pretty! I like getting perfume bottles, as opposed to vials, so this was nice. The scent is kind of a different story. I’m getting over a cold, so I either cant smell anything or I smell EVERYTHING. This hit me as being very “Fumey” lots of alcohol in this product, and the smell lingers… Once it drifted off and had been on my skin for a while though, the scent is pretty nice, a little strong, but nice.
Megan- Well, this was the disappointment of the box. The packaging was so cute and it was a lot of spray to get in a sample but the alcohol scent when sprayed is so strong and dissipates so slowly that there is no way I will ever wear it. That is sad because once you let the alcohol scent go away (no joke it was at least fifteen minutes before I could smell my wrist without recoiling) the scent is actually fun. A little heavy but there are nights out when heady is a good thing
Marakesh Endz Split End Mender and Preventer
Paige- Anything with Argan Oils is a must try for me, and this is no exception. It made my hair really soft and I instantly noticed a slight difference. Im sure with regular use, it will show a great improvement
Megan- Granted I don’t really have split ends to worry about (one of the perks of not using heat tools or a blow dryer on my hair, basically ever), but this smelled really nice. Not overpowering and left my hair feeling very nice. Did nothing for my extreme flyaways but not much does…
We love that Glossy Box always takes into account your coloring and I have have yet to receive a bad color choice from them.
I received my first Nadine West Bag today!
Shiny pink mailer aside, I was excited to see what I had been sent.
Nadine west is an online subscription bag that is COMPLETELY FREE and TOTALLY NON COMITMENT
In theory, this is a great idea: you sign up for a subscription, (you do have to enter your credit card info, and they put a hold on a $1 to make sure it goes through-I’ll explain this in a moment) fill out a little info about your self- including your pricing and size preferences- and they send you fun tops and accessories that they think you’ll enjoy. Once these are received, you can either choose to keep them, in which case you will be charged (see? I told you I’d explain), or send them back with the free shipping label that comes in the bag
Here are the things I was sent this month
This scarf was all right. It wasn’t awesome quality, but it was pretty with its muted turquoise and corals, it would go with a lot of my clothes…. If I didn’t have one that already looks the same… that I bought for around $5.00. For this one they wanted $17.99, and while it wont break the bank, it’s more than I want to spend on an item like this. So back it goes.
This was cute, but they were asking $9.99 for it, a stretch bracelet with plastic beads. Not totally unreasonable, but too much for the quality of the item, in my opinion. Also, I just don’t like stretch bracelets, I’ve always had larger wrists, and they rarely fit me correctly. It went back into the bag after one glance.
I hated this option. Yes, its boho, yes its turquoise, two of my favorite attributes . BUT- and this is a big one- It was horrible quality, the WHOLE pendant was plastic, it had no weight to it, and it came with this weird snake chain that did not mesh well at all. For this they wanted $17.99?
That went back as well.
All in all I am not yet pleased with Nadine West. This is my first month though, and they are a fairly new company, so I’ll stick with them and see if they take my preferences into account next time. On the survey/ return slip that comes with the bag they ask why you returned items. I filled them out accordingly and hope that they will see that.
I really like this concept, and I hope it gets better. You can choose the style of tops you like and whats preferable jewelry wise. The profile test is really easy to take and only lasts a few minutes. I was hoping to see some plus sizes in the clothing, but there are no plus options yet. I also wrote that I would rather have accessories over clothing because I don’t think any of the clothes will fit, but I guess we will see if they stick to that. Has anyone else tried this subscription? What do you think?
Lets keep Trying Nadine West!
IPSY is a monthly subscription bag that is $10 a month for monthly subscriptions. The cost lowers as you subscribe for longer. Each month you will receive 5 deluxe or full size beauty samples and a cute makeup bag designed exclusively for Ispy subscribers.
Flower Power was the theme for March’s Ipsy Bag, and while it is a cute for spring, we were a tad disappointed that it was not St. Patrick’s day themed. (Only because green is one of Paige’s favorite colors). That Being said, one of our favorite parts of Ipsy is the fun bags that the products come in every month. So, while this month’s wasn’t our favorite design ever, we liked the blue and yellow combo with the pops of pink. It makes us think spring is actually on the way.
Paige- I was the only one who received the Sexy Hair Argan Creme Oil, and it intrigued me. I use oil on my hair regularly, but hair creme is something new to me. It is meant for use as a blow dry agent, but it might be more useful to me as a setting creme, since I am more likely to curl my hair than blow dry it. It does have a micro sheen to it though, so beware if you are not a fan of micro glitter. It also seemed to take some of the sheen out of my hair, which is weird since the shine seems to be built into the product. The Price I found was $7 on Amazon For the travel size.
I also received Dr. Brandt Anti-Aging Mattifying Lotion. This is not something that I have used in the past, so I’m pleased to see it in this bag! I am almost at the end of a sample of a similar product and I have heard rave reviews about this brand, so I’m really excited to try it out. Estimating at $15 for the sample since a 1.7 oz can be found on Sephora for $60
Paige-I LOVE Lip gloss, in fact, I hoard it like its going out of style. Lipstick, however, isn’t really my thing. Oh but THIS NYX Butter Lipstick in Little Suzie, goes on SO smooth and glossy. I might be converted if all lipsticks felt like this! Bonus- Its full size! $6 on NYX Website
Megan-I really like NYX, Its affordable and has great pigmentation. Pops Explosif is a great neutral color! Its more a stain than a lipstick. I love that it glides on so well, but the shine doesn’t last long. I might use it under a lip balm that will be refreshed throughout the day or as a base under a gloss. I have a feeling this will become a staple for me. Next time I see NYX, I’ll be looking for a slightly lighter shade of this exact thing.
BLAKE- At first sight I was disappointed because my skin doesn’t normally mesh well with dark colors. However I did a total 360 when I put on this lipstick. Holy cow! I love how it goes on my lips so smooth, like butter! Ha! Just like in the name. This plum color is not as dark as it reads in the tube, which is also a plus. I would wear this out and about. If I was going to rate this item I would give it 5 Ipsy bags, stars, whatever.
Paige- Ipsy hit this one out of the park for me, since I LOVE copper eye shadows. I feel like the color highlights my green eyes perfectly. This Marsk eyeshadow is Lucky Penny, and lives up to its name. It was easy to apply, no blending or fancy brushwork needed here. It reads dark at first glance, but goes on sheer and is easily build-able if you want a more dramatic look. This is also a spectacular color for those blue eyed gals. Full Size at 1.2 Grams and $22.50 on Marsk Website
Megan-I also got the Marsk shadow, in Fifty Shades. You’ll need a lot of layering to get to a deep gray because it goes on sheer. I like to use multiple colors and blend them together on the lid, so I want shadow to go on in the color it appears to be immediately, not after 10 layers (who has the time?). That being said, if you’re like Paige, this is a very nice, easy way to get a shimmer of gray across the entire lid quickly and walk out the door. Used that way it is good for the office. Bring it with you, add a few more coats before leaving the office and you can have a fun evening out with the girls and get a pop of color without veering into Gothic territory.
Paige- If I’m being totally honest, I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do with this highlighter because the color is much lighter than I usually use, and goes on thick, so if you guys have suggestions, please let me know! It might come in handy for Inner eye brightening, a base for pastels, or lining my water line when I want to look more awake. Full Size is $16.74 on Amazon
Megan- Ah, the highlighter pencil that I can’t read. This is my least favorite product of the bunch. Good color for brow highlighting, but it went on sort of heavy (it either went on heavy or not at all) and didn’t blend well. When it’s near the delicate skin of my eyes, it needs to blend easily and go on smoothly. It will go into the pile of costume makeup for when I need super bold looks, but this is definitely not going into my everyday wear.
Blake-This highlighter is the one that did not work for me at all. Its not light enough that I would use as an accent, and it goes on so thick, like a crayon. I don’t like waxy products because it feels like I’m wearing tons of makeup when I’m not. This is a big ‘ole zero for me.
Megan- I received Coolway Hair Oil this month. I’ve never used hair oil before. While it’s not greasy, my hair produces enough of it’s own oil that I would never go out and buy more to add to it. That being said, I’ve always liked trying new things and if this can tame even a few of my flyaways, it might be worth it. Maybe it’s just me and the amount of hair I have, but I feel like I’d have to use the whole bottle to just get it in evenly. I only used what the directions suggested and tried to spread it as evenly as possible. I was sure that I’d get up in the morning and find that one section of my hair would be slick and that would be the end of it. To my delight, there was no particular section that was especially greasy. On the flip side, there was no particular shine or any smoothing of my hair either. Time to try a little bit on the dry hair like the bottle suggests. The end result: I have some very nice, shiny, sleek flyaways sprouting from my head. It certainly didn’t help keep anything down (although I don’t really know that anything short of a clay mask would) but the dry application of the oil (used sparingly) gave my pony tail a nice sheen. I won’t be going out and buying this by the bucket load, but this little bottle should last me the better part of a month the way I’m using it.
I also received the Pur-Lisse Cleanser. My skin actively rejects most things that come into contact with it, so using new products can be risky. While this makes for reasonably clear skin, it makes finding a good cleanser (and foundation) a challenge. The best I can say for this product is that it didn’t irritate my skin. It also didn’t remove my makeup very well. This is one that I might use in the after having used an actual makeup remover. It will stay in that corner of the bathroom that holds the random things I use when I run out of my usual suspects and haven’t made a Target run. Hey, it didn’t end up in the trash which is where a lot of skin products go for me.
3 Ipsy bags
All in all, a very fun bag of goodies, and over $60 value for one bag! As always, we can’t wait for next month! Way to go, Ipsy. 🙂
