Happy June! This little bag of awesome arrived earlier this week.
This is a monthly subscription from Sephora, it $10 a month, and it has always got a great theme. This one is “In a Summer State Of Mind”
So here we go!
Bumble and Bumble Don’t Blow It Air Styler
I got this in another bag a few months ago and I LOVE it. I don’t like to use a blow dryer, especially in the summer months, and this is so perfect for just letting your hair air dry because it tames the fly-aways, conditions, not to mention, it leaves my hair super silky and smooth.
Tarte Tarteguard Tinted Moisturizer, SPF 20 in Medium
Light and silky, this tinted moisturizer is sheer and doesn’t melt away in the heat. It also doesn’t have a heavy smell, it’s light and clean. I don’t like heavy makeup, so this fits the bill nicely.
Thierry Mugler ALIEN Perfume
This is the perfume extra in the box this month. Its not a scent I would buy for my self, but i can use this sample. The scent has notes of Sambac jasmine, Cashmeran wood, and amber gris.
Kat Von D liquid lipstick in K-Dub.
This is a beautiful bright fuchsia matte Lip color. It’s not my style, as I prefer neutral, and sheer satin or gloss. That being said, it looked surprisingly good on me, and because it’s so bright, the more tan I get, the better it will look.
Briogio Curl Charisma Leave-in Defining Creme
I don’t know if I will use this because my hair is only slightly wavy, but I’ll give it a go.
So I guess I’m on the later ship date for this since I just received my box the day Paige posted her review of it. This box contained less makeup than the previous ones but it more than made up for it in other items that I really like.
Arm and Hammer Truly Radiant Toothpaste:
Well, not super exciting, but I love a good mint (none of that rubbish spearmint stuff please) and I do love travel sizes. I have to jump on planes often enough for work that these are super handy.
Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs in Medium:
Well, I am a HUGE fan of this. As someone who burns when they even think about going into full sunlight regardless of the SPF slathered on (yes, I am the person they make the 100 spf for…), I’ve known and used this product (in Fair) for years. It goes on easily (especially now that they have the lotion version instead of the spray that got everywhere) and once dried (and it dries quickly) stays where it should and not on your clothes. You won’t regret it. Bonus, it covers up those random bruises that you have no idea how they got there.
Burt’s Bees Lipstick in 511 Magenta Rush:
Not a color I ever would have chosen in the store but after having put it on, I actually really like it. It’s fun, not too orange, goes on really well, has good pigment, and was a little shines without being over powering. Good job Burt. I plan to get a more neutral shade the next time I’m at the store.
Incoco Coconut Nail Art in Fashion Statement #03505:
I’ve used these before and they go on pretty easily. I really like the pattern/colors on these and can see them being accent nails for black polish or something like that. The only warning I will give is that when using these, make sure your nails (the top of your nails) are really smooth. Make sure to clean, buff well, and dry leaving no dust or bumps. Anything left on your nail WILL be extremely visible once the strip is applied.
Schwarzkopf Shampoo and Conditioner Essence Ultime:
Thank you sending both the shampoo AND conditioner. Also, thank you for sending enough of a sample to actually be able to try it out. I’ve been seeing these commercials and am very interested to try it. I’ll report back.
Vaseline Intensive Care Advanced Repair Unscented:
Again, this is an item that I use already and really like. This will go into my travel stash as it is small enough to be carried on. LOVE the unscented-ness of it. It does everything it should and doesn’t let anyone but you know that it’s been applied.
Nivea In Shower Lotion:
I think this is the third one of these I’ve received from various boxes and might actually have enough now to be able to try it. Maybe it’s just me, but this seems like a potentially bad idea. Wet tub floor plus very smooth, slick substance equals at best a bruise that is awkward to explain and at worst a trip to the ER. Wish me luck.
So…beauty Army has had a rough few months. It basically fell apart, got a new CEO, tried to get its subscribers to come back by giving multiple promises that things were different and vouchers for free boxes. I fully admit to being skeptical. The old Beauty Army had a very poor sample selection, hit and miss as to whether you actually got the samples you selected, and unreliable delivery.
The new Beauty Army has better sample selection, still not amazing, but pretty good, delivery was smooth, but the actually getting the samples selected is still a bit of a problem. You choose 6 samples from a list of about 20. Well, I received five samples. I probably wouldn’t have even realized that I was a sample short except that the one that didn’t make it into the box was the one I was really excited about. Good thing this was a free box. Well, scratch that, technically I had paid for a year’s subscription and only received 5 boxes, so I paid for this…
Neutrogena Naturals Makeup Remover Towelettes:
I will always take these when they are available. I use them everyday and this sample pack of 7, is perfect for my travel stash.
Batiste Dry Shampoo
I have the cherry scented version of this (thank you another monthly beauty box) and it works great. Very excited for this unscented version (since I really don’t like products to have specific smells unless it is perfume).
Revlon Bold Lacquer
I REALLY like this! Went on amazingly well. No clumps, didn’t smudge, nice layering. Usually it takes me half a bottle to get to this ease of use. I can’t wait to see if it holds up. If it does, I’ve found my new go-to!
Pretty good size sample. Feels nice, didn’t leave any residue. Not sure if it will actually be firming and anti-wrinkle but I’ll keep using it just for the moisturizing it provides at night. I wonder how much a full container is…I don’t know that it is really any better than my basic St Ives lotion that I normally use…
Scratch Nails Multi Base and Top Coat
I like that it came with a sheet showing all the different colors available. Nice as a top coat. I won’t be trying it as a base because I am so in love with my Rubberized Base Coat by Orly…(if you don’t have it already, go now and get one. You’re welcome).
The Walmart beauty box is a fun one. It’s seasonal, coming out every 3 months, but unlike Target, you can subscribe to it, and it’s only $5. I call that a pretty excellent deal, especially since even if I don’t use EVERYTHING, the value is definitely there.
InCoco Nail Art Stickers
Speaking of Value, these really got me excited. I love nail decals, and polish, and this style is especially fun. I can’t wait to try them.
Goody Slide Proof Hair Ties
I use and loose hair ties all the time, so these Goody Slide Proof were a great treat. (See? The box has already paid for it self) I’m in that super thick preggo hair mode right now, so I go through these really fast
Lady Gaga Black Fluid Fame
I have received this Lady Gaga Fame perfume in other boxes
It’s not my favorite, because it’s super sultry, and rich. I prefer much lighter scents. I can see possibly wearing a very light splash out to a formal event or a ritzy date with the hubby, but it’s definitely not for every day wear on me.
Sally Air Brush Legs
I LOVE this stuff, I have been using the spray version for years! I hate wearing nylons and this is the perfect product when its too hot out for an extra layer. It makes legs super smooth looking, and spider veins are no more. Just make sure you let it dry COMPLETELY before you get dressed.
Schwarzkopf Essence Ultime Diamond Color and Radiance Shampoo and Conditioner
Well. That’s a mouthful… I didn’t notice an immediate difference when I tried this out, but I also don’t have colored hair, and for right now, my hair is pretty healthy, other than needing a trim. That being said, it smelled OK, and I REALLY appreciate the fact that there are BOTH a shampoo and conditioner to try.
Vaseline Intensive Care Advanced Repair Lotion
Lotion samples always come in really handy, and Vaseline makes a great product! not much more to say there…
Truly Radiant Clean and Fresh Toothpaste by Arm and Hammer
I like Toothpaste samples, and this is a good one. With as much as we travel, samples like this are super useful and this will be thrown in my stash for camping and traveling.
Simple Micellar Cleansing Water (one use)
This was a tiny (one use) sample. We call them foil packets, because you cant close them back up and essentially need to be used all at once. It was a nice little bonus, but it would probably not be something that I would buy because I like the act of washing my face. It relaxes me at the end of my day, and makes me feel cleaner. This was like putting on a toner, I didn’t feel like I got everything, and I used it on a day when I wasn’t wearing makeup at all.
Nivea In Shower Body Lotion (single use)
I use this stuff on a regular basis, because I’m constantly forgetting to put on lotion after I get out of the shower. This way it’s already in there with me and super easy to rub on, rinse off and BAM! Silky skin! This got used immediately.
I felt the box definitely paid for itself this season, although, I would have LOVED to have seen a makeup product this time around. What did you guys think of your boxes?
This was promising at first, but after a squeeze and a slight rub, it started almost pilling on my skin, and left no color what so ever. It also felt a bit oily, and wont play well with other makeup. It’s not something I’d want to wear if I knew I was going to be sweating all day.
I can see how many people will like this bag. Unfortunately, I am not one of them. It is too loud and busy for me. Definitely not one of my fave designs.
Urban Decay eye shadow in “Lounge”
Urban Decay eye shadow is always great and this is no exception. The color is so amazing! When I added it to my brush, it looked maroon. However, when I applied it to my eyelid it went on as a gorgeous green/purple color. A little product went a long way and it gave me just the look I wanted. I highly recommend this color and this company in general. They may be pricey but are oh so worth it! Continue reading →
So far, I’m digging the presentation! This is the play card you take into the store for your one on one tutorial.
How Cute is this little bag!
This is the little tip sheet/ mini mag that comes with the box, I did not really use the tips but they looked good!
So much fun stuff….
Lets get reviewing, shall we?
BITE Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Kimchi
This is bright, but actually looks really good on! It’s the perfect bold color for spring time and summer and will look great with a tan and white teeth. This lipstick also a great formula It feels like butter sliding on, and it has staying power. It’s a semi matte formula that does not dry your lips out at all. (Also- How cute is the presentation? I love that little bullet!)
Tarte Lip Crayon in Latergram
I really like this color, a great neutral mauve, which is the PERFECT “my lips but better” color for me. The formula is great, its a matte, but is not drying. The only issue that I have so far is that because of the sample size, it goes on more like a liner than a lip crayon. But for the amazing color payout, I think I’ll deal.
Korres Wild Rose Sleeping Facial
I don’t know if I would call this a facial, more like a very thick night cream. It works well as a night cream and my skin still feels very moisturized and super soft when I wake up in the morning. I’m not sure if I would seek this out for future purchase because of the high price point ($48.00) and the similar products out there for a lesser price. I did enjoy using this product though, and will use it ’till the last drop.
Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask
I like that this product stems from the inspiration of raw beauty. It come very close to its roots by not using parabens, sulfates, silicone or artificial colors or fragrances. It has an argon oil base, that I really appreciate, because that’s a product I use on my hair every single day. This hair mask will definitely get used. The sample is big enough to probably get a few uses out of it for me, but for someone with extremely thick hair, there might only be one or two.
Origins Maskimizer + Drink Up and Clear Improvement Masks
I don’t use masks on a regular basis, though I probably should. Anything that will help improve the outcome of a mask is appreciated and will get used. I really like the Origins company and what it does for the planet, which includes planting over 500,000 trees globally, so if these masks work well, I can see my self purchasing one of them in the near future.
Atelier Cologne- Orange Sanguine
This is one perfume sample that I will be using! If you have read this blog in the past, you know that I don’t really like perfume samples because I never like the smells, as they are often too rich for me. This is a perfect, subtly fruity scent, and the starting price point of $25 is not bad. I don’t usually buy full size perfumes because I change my mind often, and a small size at an affordable price works in their favor. The bonus with this product was the beautiful information/ post card that came packaged in a wax envelope. The whole presentation was beautiful, and I’m looking forward to wearing the perfume soon.
Does anyone else get this box? What did you guys think?
Natalie is a runner, piano, chess, and voice teacher during the day. By night, though, she is becoming a premier cosplayer here in Southern California. She is constantly working to better her art form, which includes getting the makeup for a certain character exactly right. Her daytime style is whatever her current mood is, and she can rock a bright colored lip like no one else. As far as her cosplay is concerned, well anything and everything goes!
We wanted to welcome a new reviewer to our little group!
Her name is Rebecca, but we all call her Howie. She will be reviewing Birchbox, which is a box none of us have right now, and Ipsy. We are excited about the extra reviews, and being able to work with another registered nurse is great because we just know she will have some quick beauty tips for us. Howie is located in Utah where she lives with her Boyfriend and works at a nearby hospital. Check out her official Three Girls profile here.
This box was sent for review, at a discounted rate.
Well. This is a Massive box. (It had better be, with the $50 price tag)
Wren 14Kt Gold and Black Sapphire Necklace
Megan and Paige– OOOH. Jewelry. We love jewelry. We love sapphires and gold. We don’t love this necklace. The size is great (18” + 2” extender), the shape is really cute (Gold heart for Megan, rose gold moon for Paige) and the packaging is nice. The problem lies in the fact that the (very large) item detail sheet says that this would retail for $100. It is by far the highest retail in the mix and the workmanship of it doesn’t hold up. The sapphire doesn’t sparkle at all. We do realize that it’s small and black but it is faceted and should therefore do… something…This implies that it is very badly cut and murky (Again- It’s black, but there should be a touch of clarity). The other issue is that the flat part of the surface of both pendants were not buffed well. You see lots of surface pitting that should have been sanded/buffed/smoothed before being dipped. It’s just sort of cheap. A bit downer on the first item (We’re just going in sheet order). Bottom line is that its a great $15-$20 piece, it is most definitely NOT worth the $100 that the card states, and neither of us would pay the full price for this.
FabFitFun x CosmoBody Jump Rope
Megan and Paige– Meg knew that her job would come back to bite her someday. She knows just a little too much about how much it actually costs to make items. Some one who does not know about the cost of manufacture might pay $14 for this (very decent, and nicely colored and branded) jump rope, but Megan also knows that they can be made in China for less than $0.80 each. There is no packaging to speak of (which normally adds anywhere from $0.20-$0.80 depending on what kind it is) and even paying royalties for the ‘CozmoBody’ branding, there is no way that this landed for more than $2.00 (Being very generous here). That would usually mean that it would sell for $7-10. Again, it seems a bit overpriced for something like this.
Everyday Wireless Speaker Retail $29.99
This one is spot on for price. It’s a fun color (Meg’s a pink girl if you haven’t figured that out already). We love that it is rechargeable and the blue tooth option makes it great to take to the beach or on a picnic.
Scratch Nail Wraps
Megan– Well, these are thick and sort of like puffy paint. I get that they want it to emulate nail polish but the texture is just sort of weird. The triangle design is kind of cool, I wanted a bit of a brighter color. The nude/pink/pale color doesn’t work with my skin tone.
Paige -I liked the color, it’s fun maybe for one nail, but it’s a bit intricate for the whole hand. I thought the texture was fine, when you got BOTH coats of plastic off (one on the front and one on the back) I didn’t think they were that thick once on, and even though there are like 16 in the pack, I think these will last me for a while because I might wear just 2 at a time. $12 feels a bit high for the product, but it is what they are retailing for, so its about right. The one thing that bothered me is that you had to go to the website to get directions, yes they were relatively easy to apply, but is one extra tiny piece of paper in the package to much to ask for?
Inkling Scents Sultry Roll-On Oil Perfume
Megan– My pickiness with scents comes into play here. It reminds me of something but I can quite put my finger on it. I know that the oil part of the perfume is supposed to help the scent stay longer but it just leaves a bit of a residue that I don’t care for.
Paige- I really liked this scent, once it goes on, it truly is very sultry, and will probably not be an every day scent for me, but I love it for evening events. It did leak a bit in the box, but not enough to really bother me. A co worker loved it so much that she took my order code and ordered it the day I received my box! I will say that the customer service for this company is awesome, when the scent order arrived, it had a hand written thank you note and several yummy samples of other scents.
Headspace 3-month Subscription
Valued at $38.85
Meg– I think this is an app for meditation? Obviously I need to do a bit more research on this. The sheet says it’s a ‘must have for A-list celebs like Gwyneth Paltrow and Emma Watson’. I don’t know that that actually helps or dissuades me from following up on the website….
Paige– I’ve gotta be honest- this will never get used, but the card itself is cute! I might put it up at work or something?
Wow…halfway (ish) through and this isn’t going very well…hmmm.
Gorge ‘I’ll make you look Amazing’ Daily Spray
Meg– I’m excited to try this tomorrow. Anything that promises to repair ‘ALL’ damage is worth a try 🙂
Paige– It smells funny. (Patchouli?) But that goes away after using it. It’s not a miracle worker, but its a great leave in conditioner.
Hello Konjac Cleansing Sponge
Meg– I love these! I have some that have clay and charcoal in them. They exfoliate (gently) and clean really nicely.
Paige– Awesome! Love anything that exfoliates well. My facial brush is almost dead, this will make a nice replacement.
Tarte LipSurgence Lip Gloss
Meg– Well, I love Tarte, and this color (exposed) is beautiful. Goes on nicely, stays nicely, not sticky. Another A+ from Tarte.
Paige– I got the same color. It is a fantastic sheer pink. I also love any Tarte product, so this works beautifully for me.
Sponsered: Vaseline Intensive Care Aloe Soothe Spray Moisturizer
Meg– Well, this is a really big bottle. I like how it feels on but it’s a bit unwieldy to use. I feel like it sprays easily but it covers a lot more of an area than you actually want it to. After the first spray I put a towel down and that made it a bit easier.
Paige– This is a great product. It went on smoothly and easily, and rubbed in really well. It also left no residue.
All in all, the value of the box was there, but we are both glad we got it at a discount for the first time. We will both keep it for another go-round and see if its actually worth the $50 price tag.
