Hi All!

Not much to say on this months glossy box, I think we were both a touch underwhelmed with the products, but here goes!

FullSizeRender copyThe Aloe Source – Jojoba Radiance Cleansing Polish

Megs- Well, I’m a fan of aloe and Glossy Box is definitely in summer mode with two of the five items being aloe based.  This is a nice cleanser.  Nothing remarkable.  Does the job, doesn’t really have a smell (which I appreciate).  It has a very small grain to it so that you feel it’s exfoliating a bit but not too much so that you don’t mind using it 2x/day as directed.  I’ll have to pick up the toner and moisturizer and see how the complete combo works.

wpid-img_20150623_11.pngFullSizeRender orlyOrly – Nail Laquer

Megs- I love this size.  It’s a nice one to throw into my bag when traveling.  Mine was REALLY pink.  Definitely a summer polish. It goes on fine and isn’t streaky.  I also appreciate that Orly doesn’t contain formaldehyde.  I don’t know that I’d consider the cap ‘award winning’…

Paige- I received an interesting gray/ light mauve shade. Its not something I’d wear on a regular basis, but it’s a pretty neutral color that goes on very clean. I will get some use out of this polish for sure. I appreciate the rubberized cap for sticky polish.

wpid-img_20150623_8.pngToo Faced Cosmetics – Better Than Sex Mascara

Megs– Well, somebody’s been having really bad sex because this is not the Be All End All of mascaras.  In fact, the brush is cumbersome and a bit useless.  The actual mascara is fine for one coat but it doesn’t build well despite what the large advertisement on the box says.  This will go into the ‘I don’t care if I lose it’ travel collection.

Paige– I hate to say it, because I was really excited about this product when I found out that it would be in the box, but I think Megs is right. It’s really too bad because I have heard some AWESOME stuff about this mascara.

First off, I HATE HATE HATE having to wipe a mascara brush off before I use it, it just feels like extra work and time that I don’t have when I’m half asleep in the mornings. (Mascaras like this do exist, and they are awesome.) The brush was a bit hard to use, but it might have been because I tend to stay away from brushes that are anything but straight. I have just never had much luck with the oddly shaped brushes.

All that being said however, I did notice a distinct lengthening and volumizing of my lashes upon first application, but when I tried for more, it didn’t seem to build, and I felt like I got it everywhere. It did flake a little bit throughout the day- not good for this contact lens wearer…

wpid-img_20150623_12.pngEtre Belle Cosmetics – Aloe Vera Ultra Moisturizing Gel

Megs- Number two of the Aloe items in this box.  I have to say, the electric green color is very off-putting.  I’ve never understood why companies think that anything aloe has to be that scary green.  Pure aloe isn’t that color, just calm down.  Sorry…  Ok.  It goes on well and has a nice coolness about it when first put on.  I find that it is vaguely tacky though once dried.  It definitely doesn’t play nicely under makeup.   So, It will go into my beach bag for when I get out of the water and am super dry from the salt.

Paige- This is the only aloe product that I received in the box, but it came in the nick of time, since I did a mud run this weekend and got a wicked sun burn on the front of my shoulders near my arm pit (slather that sun screen EVERYWHERE folks- especially if you don’t know what obstacles your gonna face) This did take the sting away, but I didn’t really notice a difference from the natural (clear) aloe gel that I buy at my local Target. I generally use aloe gel on my face after washing at night, so I’ll continue to use this, then go back to my normal aloe and see if anything changes.

wpid-img_20150623_10.pngCity Cosmetics City Lips Collagen Peptide Lip Plumping Treatment

Megs- I don’t know if it actually plumps my lips or not but they are super smooth after this has been on about 5-10 minutes.  I’ve taken to putting my foundation on, putting this on my lips, putting the rest of my makeup on, and then putting a gloss on right before walking out the door.  It helps the gloss last longer and look better.  A keeper!  I’ll have to see if it comes in other colors and maybe just skip the gloss.

Paige– Plumping treatments never work for me (or at least I can never tell if they are working), so I was kind of feeling “meh” when I saw this. However, its really glossy and goes on really easy. I also like the no fuss packaging and light vanilla scent. I am not sure why we got two different looking boxes, but reading everything, it looks like the same product.

wpid-img_20150623_9.pngNexxus Color Assure Conditioner

Paige- This is the partner to the shampoo I received several months ago I guess. I was finally able to use the system together, but still did not like it much. It smells nice, but it’s hard to rinse out. Not only that, I don’t have colored hair, so I can’t really test it accurately. This might go to Megs or Blake to see if they can use it. Guys? Any takers?

Our May box was not bad by any means, and you’re not always going to make everyone happy, but we have definitely seen better from Glossy Box.

Happy Boxing!

June Ipsy Bag Review

IMG_1486
FullSizeRender(5)
wpid-2015-06-23-09.57.21.png.pngwpid-img_20150612_1-1.jpgReview time again! We love this time of the month! Meg actually came back from wedding activities on the East Coast to this little pink mailer, and after hours of traveling and days of wedding festivities,  It was a nice treat to see this in the mail box.  Actually, we were reminded a bit of a really cute summer bathing suit, gotta love that combo of black neoprene and bright coral. Our bags were actually quite different this month, which is a nice change of pace.
FullSizeRender(4)Liptitude Limited Edition 24/7 Hydrating Lip Stain
Blake- I loved how this felt on my lips. It felt like it was hydrating and cooling at the same time. The color was a bit orange red which is fine as a base color. Though watch not to smudge because like the name it is a stain. I give this three ipsy bags
FullSizeRender(6)
Sorry about the grainy photo! (for color)
Meg- I have no idea what color this is officially. Unofficially, it’s a bright (bright) deep pink. It looks like a gloss on but be mindful when applying it. They aren’t kidding when they call it a stain.  It’s a fun color, I have a dress that is just begging to be worn with it. The downside is trying to keep it in place. It smears easily and stains easily so it will take a lot of work and will power to keep it in place. I tried wiping the bulk of it away after ten minutes and was left with patchy stains. They smoothed out with some lipgloss and I feel like that might be the way to go. I’ll keep experimenting because I really do love how bold the color is.
IMG_1486 copyTrestique Mini Shadow Crayon in Marimoto Pink Pearl.
Meg- I’m in love!  it is an amazing shade. I’m going to wear it to work tomorrow. Cute package (I really thought the cap had fallen off and I was searching for it…hey, I’m still on east coast time…let’s see how long that excuse lasts) Easy to apply, stays put nicely. A winner! (Don’t feel bad Megs, It happened to Paige too)
FullSizeRender(3)Trestique Gold Lipstick
Blake- I love this color it’s like a beige gold that gives a little shine to you lips. It also feels very smooth and not chalky. I give this three Ipsy bagsFullSizeRenderNuxe Paris Gentle Exfoliating Gel with Rose Petals
Blake- This goes on very smooth and does have some exfoliating beads which is not to harsh on my skin. It really is gentle an smells amazing.  I give this four Ipsy bags
FullSizeRender(1)Befine Cucumber Facial Mask
Blake– This mask feels and smells amazing. When I put it on I just felt to fresh and so clean. It also did not make my skin dry up when I washed it off. I give this four Ipsy bags.
Meg- No really?  With cucumber?  I never would have guessed from the name.  I’m not the most objective person on this one since I find the smell of cucumber offputting.  It went on well. I kept expecting to encounter fine grit but it was really smooth. Kind of a pain to get off though. I really had to scrub and still, I looked in the mirror and saw little white streaks in random places.   Not one I plan to put into my wish list but interesting to try.IMG_1486Jules and Ester Facial Serum No. 24
Meg- It says it contains vitamin C and the faint whiff of citrus is very pleasant. Absorbs quickly and cleanly into my skin and doesn’t feel really heavy.  As to reducing the signs of aging, well, after two cross country flights, three days of wedding festivities, and 90 degree humidity I have a really tough case. I don’t know that anything could help today…
FullSizeRender(2)Smashbox Foundation Primer
Blake– I first wanted the Melted lip gloss but wow I love how this primer feels. I mean it feels so smooth going on. Like I have said in the past, I love to wear makeup that doesn’t feel heavy and this primer feels like I’m wearing nothing. The only down fall is the size. It is tiny. It seems smaller than a sample or travel size. For the product I would give five Ipsy bags but for the size I have to subtract down to four Ipsy bags
Meg- This has been a standard in my makeup box since discovering the joys and the horrors of uneven foundation many (many) years ago. It’s been my go to primer for everything from formal pictures to performances to date night. It hasn’t let me down yet and I love having the little travel size to take with me. Where were you last week when I was trying to cram all my makeup into a carry-on?
Paige- Like Blake, I really wanted the Melted sample, because I don’t wear primer often. But upon seeing this little gem in the bag, I was still really excited. (I have heard Megs talk about this since it came out YEARS ago) The size is a bit small, but the full size is also small for what you pay for it. It went on really smoothly and stayed on all day, but because I don’t wear this kind of product often, I don’t know if I would be comfortable plunking down a good chunk of change for it at Sephora. wpid-img_20150623_2.pngAltcheck Dermitologist MD DePuff Eye Pads
Paige- I don’t usually use this type of product because wrinkles have not been high on my list, but dark circles are a huge issue with me. I was wondering if it might help with brightening those as well as hydrating the area. They worked very well, and I was impressed. If the circles were not gone, at least the area was moisturized and better looking. wpid-img_20150623_4.pngwpid-20150623_090715-1.jpgtreStique Mini Shadow Crayon in Aspen Pine
Paige- This was a good color for me and a nice change from all the copper colors from Ipsy that I have been receiving lately. The packaging was adorable, and like others, I thought the cap had fallen off and went on a hunt for it. The formula is awesome, I have a greasy eye lids (I don’t have another way to say that, I know its gross, sorry) It stayed all day and didn’t really budge. I love the color as well!
wpid-img_20150623_3.pngFormula X Nail Color in Power Source
Paige- This is a great Summer Color, and I am really happy with the formula. The ONLY issue I had with this was that it was that the brushes in these tiny bottles are very small and don’t coat nails well. But I managed to make it work and I’m happy with the product.
wpid-img_20150623_6.pngIT Cosmetics Brow Power Universal Eyebrow Pencil
Paige- Brow pencils are not something I use often because I have thick brows, but when I do need one, now I have something to reach for. It worked well, and I like the attached brush (because I DO use those). I have dark brows, but even though the color seemed light in the pencil, it seemed to work well. Overall, its a good product that will get use, but rarely.
All in all we were really happy with this bag! Blake gave it 18 Bags out of 25, and we are all happy with the value for this month.
Happy June! Enjoy the Beach This Month!

Beauty Box 5 June Box

First Beauty Box Five
First Beauty Box Five

This was the first month of my BB5 subscription, and I’m not sure what to say about it. I suppose underwhelmed would be a good term. I felt like they oversold themselves a bit on their website.

When I received the box, I was a bit surprised with the size. Its a bit smaller in comparison to Birchbox or Glossy Box, maybe 6″ by 4″? and I thought, “hmm, wonder what they fit in here?” Also, the theme was off a bit, they talk about Black Friday shopping, so then I was wondering if I might have received an old box… I follow them on Instagram and the item that should have come in everyone’s box was not in mine… hmmm

Where's mine?
Where’s mine?

So, alas, they will not be my #bb5fave… Bummer.

Ok downer! On to the review!

wpid-20150610_184942-1.jpgThis is the card that came with the box, although I did notice that they are misquoting the prices slightly. More on that in a bit.

wpid-20150610_184539-1.jpgDove Deep Moisture Body Wash

I have several of these little babies from other boxes and actually really like the product. My issue is that in these other boxes (Pinch me, Target Beauty and Walmart Beauty) I paid less that $10 per box, Pinch Me is actually FREE… so I was surprised to receive it in a box that costs more than Ipsy (which offers higher end products to boot) The body wash works great, and is super moisturizing. I’ll leave it in my drop bag to take camping, because we are usually in pretty dry climates when we travel. BB5 has this valued at $6.49 for 22 oz, but at 1.8 oz, the actual value is about $0.75 for a travel sized bottle like this.

wpid-20150610_185133-1.jpgLaura Ashley Sweet Peony Body Butter

This was a nice little find, It was a really pretty pink in the tub with a fresh clean floral scent. It worked well, like a regular body butter, but felt more luxurious. This will also be thrown in the travel stash. BB5 has this posted at a value of $25 for a set of six, which values this one alone at around $4

wpid-20150610_185254-1.jpgDen Tek Floss Picks and Case

I thought this was really cute, and will come in really handy for traveling. My hubby also loved these, so I’m unsure if I’ll ever see these again! We carry a bag of these with us in our trailer, but the case makes them really useful for travel. I like this brand a lot, the floss works well, and there is a pick at one end in case you had a hearty steak dinner that needs some help being removed from between your teeth. (uhm, sorry, yuck)BB5 values these ate $2.49 which is about right.

wpid-20150610_185007-1.jpgHask Macadamia Oil Hair Treatment

I was happy to see this! In a recent box I received the mask from Hask and it worked beautifully, so the Hair Oil is a great addition, and works really well at holding the moisture in after I wash my hair. I just added some to my damp ends and it air dried beautifully. BB5 values this correctly at $2.99 for this size bottle. There was a tiny bit of leakage, but not enough to make a big difference.

wpid-20150610_185207-1.jpgNika K New York Eye Light Crayon

This is a nice color, I have green eyes and it highlights them well. The formula is a bit greasy, but has some staying power. I used it as a single eye color and it’s just subtle enough to make it a nice neutral color. BB5 Values this at $4.49, which is correct.

So, all in all, the actual value was $14.72 for a box that cost me $12. I am more impressed with the seasonal Walmart and Target boxes, and Ipsy, which offer WAY more value for $10 or less.

I will stick with this for two more months to see if it gets better, but if it doesn’t improve, I probably wont commit to any more than that. Honestly, if it wasn’t for this blog, I probably would cancel right now. So far, it is not recommended, but lets see what happens next month!

Generation Beauty Day Two- Write up by Blake and Guest Blogger Erica

Generation Beauty by Ipsy Day 2!

Breakfast of Champs
Breakfast of Champs
IMG_0298
We’re up we’re up!

This was so much more organized then the first day. (Can I get a whoop whoop?) The second day came with more freebies, like Too Faced matching your skin tone and giving you a full foundation. You heard me right, a full size foundation! There was also Smash Box, who gave us not one but TWO full sized eye liners. But the best vendor by far was Tarte. We love their products and surprise, surprise, they did have items for sale. Well, they had select items for sale, (about 12) but they were offered at a 60% discount.  YAY.

The pros are in!
The pros are in!

It felt like we were pros on day two and knew exactly what to do. The event ran much more smoothly, which told us that the Gen Beauty hosts and volunteers were paying attention to the issues from the day before. They were all very nice, and spent time asking us what we thought worked from the day before and where we had problems.

IMG_0300
Unique Beauty Wall

Even though this day was run much better, we felt like we had seen most of what we needed to see on day one. We did get to look around more since it seemed that there were fewer people, and shorter lines, and we even got the chance to buy stuff! (Shopping? Uh, YES)

IMG_0384
Goodies!

So, in the afternoon, when we were finally handed the key to the world, our Day Two Glam Bag (choir singing in the background…) we decided to head home.

2015-06-09 22.09.11
Erica is rocking that grey lipstick!

In the beginning, with all the confused craziness, it was frustrating, but once we got a handle on things, we actually had a fantastic time! Will I go again? Uh HECK YES, whether I am by myself or with my amazing friends.

Yup, we're happy
Yup, I’m happy

Oh and I forgot the best part, the savings! Between the glam bags from both days and freebies we received the amount was (drumroll please)

$551.18 !!
And, I got it all for free!!!
2015-06-09 22.08.37
Bag of awesome

Now, for the items I spent money on. The in-store cost of everything would have been $257.93, but I only paid $128.10, so in the end I saved $129.83, on what I purchased. However, if we want to look at the whole shebang with all the freebies and the discounts, what outrageous numbers would we have?

If I HAD paid for everything in the glam bag at retail price it would have been, $809.11, for a TOTAL SAVINGS OF $681.01.
UNBELIEVABLE RIGHT? These numbers, just blow my mind. I love to save, and Gen Beauty helped me do that, I can’t wait until next year when the whole team will go with me!!
If you have any questions or know of other events like this, please comment and let us know. Now on to the next beauty review!

Generation Beauty By Ipsy 2015 ( Day One) – Write Up by Blake and Guest Bloger Erica

IMG_0266
My cute name badge! We are ready to start our beauty adventure!

Wow where do I even begin with this crazy weekend of Gen Beauty?

Well, The beginning, I guess! To start, finding the location was not the easiest thing do, and I am not saying this because I don’t live in LA, but because the directions were horrible! Luckily, we were not the only people that were lost. There were like 90 people, no joke, that were milling about asking for directions.
Epp! We're Here!
Eep! We’re here! Finally.
We did finally find the place, after parking in the wrong structure, and walking WAY out of our way, thanks to the lies Google told us about where we were going. (Thanks Google Maps!)  Once we found the address, we became slightly more confused because it was another parking structure. (We were pretty sure we were being punked at this point, because really?) It seemed that we were in the right place though, because there were several people heading up the stairs or into the elevators. At the risk of sounding cliche, we followed the crowd! We Had finally found it! We excitedly headed for registration to get our badges which were adorable, and we received a mini permanent maker to write our names. Then we got to wait.
Wow, that's a bunch o' people...
Wow, that’s a bunch o’ people…
And wait… And….. wait some more, in the heat with only about five umbrellas for about 4,000 people. They did give us a box of water (strange, but cool) and a nice tote to look through while we waited, but people, it was HOT out there. The end of May in Southern California is usually around 90 degrees, and this sunny Saturday was no exception.
First look?
First look
After waiting for what seemed like hours, we were ushered into a massive white event tent. We were a bit surprised to find that this grand event was held in a tent, but they did some pretty neat things with what they had. The first vendor was Sephora. They asked if we would like a makeup touch up, and how can you say no to that? (duh)  It was free and done by professionals. They told us about every method they were using, as well as what products, which we loved. After our touch ups, we got to play a quick game and win a free prize.
IMG_0279
Our makeup guru from Sephora. She did a great job, no?

Once both of us were done we thought “what now?”. It looked like a cluster**** in a huge white tent! There was no concept of lines that we could conceive, just huge globs of people at each vendor. In the end, we decided to simply walk around and try to figure out what the “must sees” were for us. Upon further investigation we realized that there were a lot of vendors who were doing touch-ups (however, no one mentioned to me that we probably should have started with clean, makeup free faces, so they were skipped). The next revelation was that we needed to pick a line and pick it fast, as it was becoming increasingly crowded.

IMG_0306
So many people, so little organization!

Once we had our bearings, we headed for the NYX line which ended up being two lines. In one, we got to vote for a You-Tuber and get a free popsicle. (YUMMO) Then, after we voted, we took pictures to get a free item.

A much needed treat
A much needed treat.

The popsicle wasn’t bad at all, and after waiting in both lines we received two free full size lip glosses, a NYX tote and 40% off all their products! Not bad right? NYX was definitely the longest wait with the most people for the first day.

Pictures to get free stuff? Heck Yeah!
Pictures to get free stuff? Heck Yeah!

After the fun of shopping we decided to check out each vendor to see what their freebies were. There were a couple good ones, like LA Girl and IT cosmetics, who also gave us wonderful tote bags with a coupon or a lipstick. Actually, the majority of vendors had something to give us, which was awesome. Not something little either! Of course there were a few who gave out travel sized items, but mostly we either received full size, or a couple travel sized items from each vendor.

Love this stuff
Love this stuff

The only issue for me was, that even though there were a lot of vendors, who were giving away these awesome items, it didn’t seem like there was much for sale. Yes, they were informing us of their new and upcoming items, but we weren’t able to actually BUY much. If I am going to an event, and I love the products that are featured, then I really want to be able to buy the products at the event, not write them down or take pictures to go by later. Isn’t that why we were there? To get a first glimpse of new items? What better way to do that than allow us to purchase said items? Seems to make more sense to me. But I digress…

IMG_0256
Getting a little closer…
Once we understood how this whole tamale was going to work, we decided to grab some lunch. This was an adventure in itself! There were these great food trucks, but not enough seating. With very little shade in the area, we had a slightly uncomfortable meal standing there in the sun, hovering over other people who were sitting and trying to squeeze in where we could.
We love us some yummy food truck grub!
We love us some yummy food truck grub!

Once we came back from lunch, with tans and full bellies, we formed our game plan. We had wanted to see a couple You-Tubers but it was super hectic because there was really no set panel location, they were just out in the open, in the middle of the tent, talking about their vlogs in big crowds, which was not for us. It would have been nice to have placed them in a separate room (or area, as it were) where they could be heard over the din and we could maybe sit down.

IMG_0281
Believe IT wall
After getting more freebies we were handed the ULTIMATE glam bag for day 1. Once we had the bag in our hot little hands, everything became right in our universe. It went a LONG way in making up for the disheveled way our day went. With only thirty minutes left of day one, we dragged our selves to dinner and our hotel to catch some shut eye and rest up for day 2!
