April Ipsy Unbagging and Reviews

This month’s colored raffia bag is one of the best I think we have received. We all loved it. The bag is SO cute! If Megan’s mom were to find it, she’d never see it again…hmmm, Mother’s Day wrapping? We loved the size and how it made us feel like summer is right around the corner.

Hikari Blush in Tango

Paige– The color read really bright in the compact, but once I actually tried it, it’s a nice, sheer blush, and great for my skin tone. I was also incredibly impressed with the grain of this powder, it felt really soft going on and didn’t sit on top of my skin, but blended really well.

Blake– This blush has such a cute name. I don’t wear to much blush because I already have a pink undertone in my skin tone. Though this one is a light shade and actually goes well with my skin shades I will rate this three Ipsy bags.

The Balm Nude Dudes Eye Shadow in Fit and Flirty

Paige– This was so fun! It’s a little suggestive, but totally silly. It’s a good color, but come on Ipsy! I’m ready to see something OTHER than beige and copper eye shadows in my bags. (I also like purples, pinks and greens, and have changed my profile on line to see if the color changes next time) That being said, It’s a good color for me, and will get used. It’s very pigmented, and can be used as your one stop color without trying to blend a bunch of other stuff over your lid.

Megs– Interesting name, interesting packaging.  The color of the shadow was perfect. I love these semi-shimmery, lots of color impact shadows.   This is a great coppery brown that can be used by itself or blended easily with others. Adding this immediately to my everyday bag.

Blake– I absolutely love the name of the product. The shade is flirty. This just made me giggle and shows how fun this product line is. Every time I use this eyeshadow it feels so light and almost nonexistent, which I love. I can wear it solo for a nice day look, or add it to a dramatic eye for a night on the town. I am very pleased with this product and give it five Ipsy bags.

Julie Nail Polish in Damsel and Coupon

Paige– I think everyone got this very flattering pink shade in their bag this month. It’s a cute color with good pigmentation. Goes on clean in one coat. I like it!

Megs– Fun color. Great pigmentation. Went on well, covered evenly on the first coat, not too funny or too thick.  Perfect almost-summer color!  I’m going to be putting it in on toes this weekend.

Blake– The color is vibrant pink. This was the only product that I didn’t really care for. I mean I do love pink and the color was not the reason for the dislike. I did not care for the size of the brush because it seemed really small. I also did not enjoy the consistency of the actual nail polish. I will rate it one Ipsy bag.

Olive Lips Honey Oat Lip Balm

Paige– I was really looking forward to getting a Too-Faced sample of the Melted lipstick this month so I didn’t really appreciate this at face value. Once I tried it, I realized it’s a great balm! It stays on, unlike so many other oil based balms, and its good for your skin! No weird chemicals.

Megs– What a great, subtle scent.  Great feel on my lips, certified organic…I’d like to find out more about this.   I’ll have to see where this is sold and if there are tinted varieties.

MICA Beauty Eye Primer

Paige– EH- Ipsy sent me this a few months ago, and it has never worked for me. It doesn’t stay where I put it and it certainly does not do the job of a primer, so this will be a swap if any one is up for trying it out. It may work better on someone else’s skin.

Blake– Next in my beautiful bag was my Mica Beauty Eye Primer which I wanted. I did not have any problems with this product unlike other Ipsy customers did. Now onto the reasons of why I love this product! I enjoy that the primer is flesh toned and that it feels so light when I apply it. The great part for myself is that I didn’t have any problem with my eye makeup smearing or disappearing. This gets five Ipsy bags from me.

Gallany Lipstick in Petal

Megs– This is a little dark for what I like on my lips but it went on nicely.  The tone was great, color without screaming out a bright or neon tone even when wearing away.  Good for when I am heading to business dinners.

Crown Brush C224 Oval Concealer

Megs– Nice brush. Good weight to it, nicely shaped head. Small enough to work just the problem areas but not too small that you would have to switch brushes if you wanted to work on a medium area.  We’ll see how it holds up to a few cleanings, that’s the true measure of a good brush .

Klorane Dry Shampoo

Blake– Finally made it to the last product, oh man, how I don’t want this to end but it does. The last jewel I took out of this wonderful bag was a dry shampoo without milk by Klorane. Let me just start with the smell, it’s like a clean nice spring day with a nice breeze. Now, I hope this is not to much information but I did use it when my hair was nice and greasy. Lol. Oh boy did it work, it dried it up with no problem and made my hair smooth. This deserves a rate of five Ipsy bags.

Final Thoughts

Paige– All in all, My Ipsy bag this month was OKAY, the bag it self was very cute, but the contents were just so so, I feel like I have seen Ipsy do much better, hopefully with the change in my profile, it will get better.

Megs– All in all, a fabulous bag this month!  It was able to live up to every bit of my excited glee when I opened the mailbox and saw the hot pink mailer!

Blake– This month was my all time favorite of my Ipsy experiences. I mean, I have liked other bags in the past, but most of them have been small or look cheap.

April Glossy Box Review

Wow! This month’s box is a work of art!

What a fun box top this month with the comic character like makeup girl.  And a surprise treat? There was a little bag inside this month.  Very cute, sturdy, and a welcome treat from a box that we already love the packaging on.

We love it!

The makeup bag was cute and came with a mystery discount code that I haven’t tried yet, but its always nice to get discounts

Julep Gel Eye Glider-Smokey Taupe

Paige- I don’t wear a lot of eyeliner, so samples are a good size for me, but, if I get the odd full size, in a good color, I’m happy. This one happens to be a nice color, and a good eyeliner in general, actually. It smudged easily, but didn’t move once I was finished. I’m very impressed.

Megan- This is a great color. Goes on really nicely.  Be careful that you get it where you want and nowhere else because it isn’t budging once it is down.  Put it in a fun thick cat eye and heavy lashes with bare or bone colored (non shimmer) lids and be prepared for a fun night.

Lip Tar Stained Gloss in Meta

Paige- Oh My Gosh, did this color ever intimidate me. I have seen this brand in stores and have stayed away because I thought “No Way will colors like those look good on me, they are way to saturated” Was I ever shocked, then, to try this out and find that its actually quite lovely!

One coat was sheer enough to be great for regular daytime use, and two coats were perfect for a brighter lip. It goes on glossy and is not tar like at all. It feels super, and looks awesome. Definitely will be using this this summer

Megan- Lip Tar Stained a gloss in Meta: no joke, the color scared me in the box. It looks almost like a neon raspberry.  The fun of lip tar (besides it staying for a long time) is that you can layer it so that you don’t have to have full impact of the color immediately.  The barely there brush gave my lips a nice color that works with anything and is almost matte immediately but doesn’t look like your lips are dry.  A second, heavy layer gives you a sheen of slick color that is fun without being overwhelming.  Good for heading out after work or to a summer picnic in a flirty dress.  A third coat was a bit scary.  I’d save it for Halloween or someone with a bolder, more golfer skin tone than me.

Este Lauder Enlighten Dark Spot Correcting Night Serum

Paige- I am more concerned with faint wrinkles at this point than dark spot correction, so this did not really interest me, but I’ll take a sample of this brand any time. I have always liked Este Lauder, and this really is no exception, but I might pass this onto my Mom or Mother in Law and see if they can use it.

Megan- Well, it fells nice going on, soaks in fast and cleanly, no residue at all.  The little bottle is a gorgeous blue, but it is one of those that you sort of tap the product out, there is no was to squeeze or pump it out and I can tell you that it gets old trying to get it out, even when it was brand new. I can’t imagine that I’ll have the patience to try once it is down to half a bottle or less.  Hope the full size is better designed.
2015-04-14 20.58.14
Aerin Waterlilly Sun Eau De Parfume Spray

Paige- This packaging was so pretty! I like getting perfume bottles, as opposed to vials, so this was nice. The scent is kind of a different story. I’m getting over a cold, so I either cant smell anything or I smell EVERYTHING. This hit me as being very “Fumey” lots of alcohol in this product, and the smell lingers… Once it drifted off and had been on my skin for a while though, the scent is pretty nice, a little strong, but nice.

Megan- Well, this was the disappointment of the box.  The packaging was so cute and it was a lot of spray to get in a sample but the alcohol scent when sprayed is so strong and dissipates so slowly that there is no way I will ever wear it.  That is sad because once you let the alcohol scent go away (no joke it was at least fifteen minutes before I could smell my wrist without recoiling) the scent is actually fun.  A little heavy but there are nights out when heady is a good thing 😉

2015-04-14 20.59.37-1

Marakesh Endz Split End Mender and Preventer

Paige- Anything with Argan Oils is a must try for me, and this is no exception. It made my hair really soft and I instantly noticed a slight difference. Im sure with regular use, it will show a great improvement

Megan- Granted I don’t really have split ends to worry about (one of the perks of not using heat tools or a blow dryer on my hair, basically ever), but this smelled really nice.  Not overpowering and left my hair feeling very nice.  Did nothing for my extreme flyaways but not much does…

We love that Glossy Box always takes into account your coloring and I have have yet to receive a bad color choice from them.

This box continues to be awesome.  We look forward to it every month!

Spring Walmart Beauty Box (Paige)

This box is always so much fun to get. It’s sent out quarterly and filled with some great samples to try, and always includes awesome coupons.

2015-03-25 23.42.34

Its $5 every three months and comes with the seasons.

This is what came this quarter:

2015-03-25 23.41.55

Rimmel Lash Accelerator Endless Mascara (Black)

2015-03-25 23.43.07

This was full size, (There’s always at least one full size item in this box) and actually goes on pretty smoothly and stays on your lashes, not your face. I was impressed and would buy again. No clumpage or running here folks!

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Boosters facial Clenser

2015-03-25 23.45.15

Sample size

This worked well, I threw it in my travel bag for future use, but it took everything off and felt clean, so, I’m calling it good.

Dove Go Fresh Nutrium Mouisture Body Wash

2015-03-25 23.44.35
Wow, did I take a HORRIBLE pic here or what?

This smelled so good, I could not wait to try it. My skin is always dry, so it sucks up any lotion quickly, and the moisturizer in this was no exception. I still needed to use a lotion after my shower. But the smell was divine.

2015-03-25 23.43.31

Essence Omega Repair Shampoo and Conditioner

I like getting both parts of a set so I can see what its like when used correctly. I like these! The shampoo cleaned and rinsed easily, and the conditioner was thick and worked like a mask would have. It left my hair soft and manageable, even with no blow drying.

2015-03-25 23.45.29

Lady Gaga Fame Black Fluid Perfume

Perfume samples are fun, when they smell good. However, more often then not, they smell too sweet, or ripe, or over ripe… you get my drift. I was fully expecting to hate this one, so I was pleasantly surprised when I test sprayed it and actually liked it!

It’s a little sweet and a little rich, but would be a great date night perfume, when used sparingly; I think my husband might even notice it!

2015-03-25 23.42.41

Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless Foundation

This was a small sample, but worth several uses for me since I use so little foundation on my face, if any. Here’s a tip- I have a bunch of old contact lens cases that I never use, these work well for the little samples that will take me a while to get through and still keep them relatively fresh and ready for use. These are also easier to travel with these than a larger make-up bottle, and easy to clean when your ready for a different product. This works well. It did not transform my face or give me porless skin, but it covered what needed to be covered and worked as a foundation should, it also was nice and matte without being too “made up” looking

2015-03-25 23.42.21

Nivea In shower Body Lotion

I was nervous to use this because it just seems like it would be hard to use. Lotion on wet skin while IN the shower? Seemed to gooey to really be able to rub in. It went on surprisingly easy though and felt very good for a couple hours after I got out. I did still need to apply lotion that night though before bed.

2015-03-25 23.42.08

Garneir Ultra Lift Miracle sleeping Cream

This stuff made my skin feel so nice that I went out and bought a full size as soon as this ran out! (People, I almost NEVER do this) I don’t notice any lifting, but it is smoothing everything out, and makes my skin REALLY soft, which is the reason I loved it. I’ll definitely keep using this.

All of these samples came with great coupons, $2 and $3 off until the end of the year.

All in all, I feel like I have gotten better boxes from Wal-Mart, but for $5 with free shipping, I’m not going to complain, the mascara alone more than paid for the box, so I’m a happy girl.

The boxes can be purchased HERE.

BONUS!!

Target Beauty Boxes went on sale today HERE. You have to grab these fast as they tend to sell out really quickly, $5.00 with some awesome products!

What do you think, will you try it out?

Happy Hunting!

March Glossy Box Review (Megan and Paige)

Megan’s Glossy Box
We LOVE Glossy Box. It never fails to impress and amuse. Both of us love to get the fun new products every month that are tailored specifically to our profiles. This specific box is no exception and chock full of goodies!
unnamedMegan– I received Tree Hut Shea Body Butter in Coconut Lime  – Heaven.  Heaven in a petite package.  It smells like the tropics are all around.  It goes on like silk, soaks in quickly, leaves smooth skin and no residue. $6.37 Value
2015-03-24 16.20.53Pop Beauty Kajal Pen in Inky Purple (We Both Got this!) $10 value
Megan– This a a great little  liner.  It goes on well and stays, so if you get it somewhere you didn’t mean to, it isn’t going to wipe away easily.  I may have had to redo half my face this morning when I sneezed while applying and had a line from my cheek to my eye brow…Ok, I did have to.
Paige– I was so impressed with this liner. I love purple eye makeup, and I rarely find a good enough product that is subtle enough to wear every day, but purple enough to highlight my eyes nicely. Megan is right though, I needed an eye makeup remover to get this off my face at the end of the day, and my hand after a curious mishap that i still can’t figure out.

2015-03-24 16.19.53

2015-03-25 23.49.32
Paige swatched this way to early in the morning

Bellapierre Cosmetics Cheek and Lip Stain in Pink – (Another Item we both received ) $12.99

Megan and Paige– We admit, we were both hesitant to try this.  The color was scary. It was bubblegum pink…(See Megan’s March Boxy Charm Review)   You have to go easy with it. Lots of blending.  But, when applied correctly, it is very clean and pretty.  Just a hint of flush to make you look glow-y and healthy. It even worked as an eye shadow!
This pot will last a long long time.
unnamed1Ouidad 12 Minute Deep Treatment
Megan– My hair needs this.  Badly.  I haven’t tried it yet because it is a little labor intensive to use.  First I need to buy a shower cap and then I need to unearth my hairdryer from…. somewhere…  I hope it’s as good as it says it is. $26 value for a sample size
2015-03-24 16.19.35
Orogold Cosmetics 24K Multi-vitamin Day Moisturizer – (We got a lot of the same this month)
This is a very heavy cream.  A little goes a very long way.  Both of us feel that we couldn’t use this as a day moisturizer like it says because nothing went on well on top of it, even after we let it soak.  That being said, this makes an outstanding, just-before-bed-on-a-clean-face moisturizer because it really does feel good.  (bonus, there were two of these minuscule pots in our boxes!). Value estimated at $25 per sample
2015-03-24 16.19.20
Nexxus Color Assure Shampoo
Paige– I’m all for sample and full size trials of beauty products, but I would so rather have a small sample of a SET, than a full size sample of something that wont work properly when not used in conjunction with the other items in the set.
Ok, rant over, on to the review. I didn’t like this product at all after I used it. The smell was nice, but that was it. I don’t have colored hair, so, while I can always use a good deep conditioner, a shampoo for colored hair does not work for me, other than make my hair greasy, and weirdly dry at the same time. It might have worked better had it been used with the correct conditioner, but, we’ll never know. Value Estimated at about $15 for deluxe sample size
2015-03-24 16.20.39 2015-03-25 23.52.40
So Susan Concealer Quad-
Paige– Valued at $37.14, this little gem has everything you need to conceal all sorts of imperfections. It’s an awesome blend of four great shades to cover anything you want. Its also 100% cruelty free and not tested on animals. (A HUGE plus for me) The concealers them selves are lightweight, and super sheer, though when blended properly, can offer amazing coverage. The darker colors are also great for contouring.
All in all, these boxes were valued from $105.36 to $125.13. For a monthly payment of $21, its a great value. Even though there were one or two things we didn’t like (On Paige’s end anyways), we still both feel its worth the money. Glossy box hasn’t’ let us down yet, and we are always waiting for the next awesome treat!

March Boxy Charm Review (Megan)

unnamed
Megan’s March Boxy Charm

unnamed1 unnamed2

Well, this subscription started out fine (not great, fine). However, after month number three of products that I couldn’t care less about, for $21 per month, (!) you had better believe I have canceled.  (Beauty Army starts next month!  WooHoo!)

unnamed5Oscar Blandi Pronto Dry Shampoo Spray – it’s tiny!  I’m pretty sure it has one use in it and that’s about it.  It worked fine.  Didn’t leave any white stuff drifting around.  Gave my hair some additional texture (that it really doesn’t need).  But it doesn’t smell very good.  I’ll keep looking for a different dry shampoo for the 2 days a year that I may actually be far enough from civilization to be able to take a shower.  It really doesn’t happen often.
unnamed7Ofra Eyeliner in Light Beige – Ok, I know that this is supposed to be used on your water line but it is pink like my skin, not white, and so it in no way helps to pop my eyes.  It went on fine, held it’s line nicely, but there is no reason to ever use this shade.  Maybe I can use it as a lip pencil when I have a super super pale color?
unnamed6Tarte Charmed Lipsurgence – first, negative points because I received this EXACT same item last month.  Second, negative point again because it is a horrible, horrible shade of Bubblegum pink.  Even in it’s sheerest, not-even-enough-to-rub-my-lips-together layer it is screaming baby pink.  Maybe if I ever dress up as a character from Candyland I can pull this out.  Oh, wait, I have two. The sad thing is, it goes on well and stays on really well.  Maybe someday I will get up the courage to look at this product again in a different color…
Update Here- Paige stole this from me, and it actually works on her skin tone, but it still comes out bright.
unnamed3LVX Lemondrop Nail Polish – Another color that I can’t handle.  It’s not really yellow and it’s not really cream.  I could use it for Easter egg decorating possibly but it isn’t coming anywhere near my finger tips again.  It made my skin look weirdly chalky and yet almost too tan at the same time.  It is very sheer and to build up to any semblance of color takes way too many for me.  I stopped at five when I couldn’t get it to dry anymore.

unnamed8Previse Nutrify Step 2 – well, i don’t have step one or step three like it says will be the most beneficial so this is a little on the useless end to me (I’m a sucker for a complete all-in-one, or a sample that has all the steps included even if they are smaller portions).  There is a whole lot of tonic here, especially since you only use 10 drops at a time.  It was fine.  Soaks in super fast and isn’t greasy.  Nothing earth shattering.  I’m not exactly sure that I can tell any difference whatsoever.  It certainly isn’t taking the place of a moisturizer.

Needless to say, I am unimpressed again this month- both with the value of the box and the products with in. Cant wait for my first Beauty Army Box!
